This Accel funded project aims to train plumbers, electrians, builders, and other interested parties in renewable and sustainable energy technologies.
Our Approach
We view installation as just one of a number of activities required to produce a functional and efficient renewable energy solution, and our planned courses will reflect this.
Renewable Energy Solution Activities
| CONSULT | This activity takes place when a householder or business requests assistance in assessing their property for a renewable energy solution. Consulting typically consists of looking at the energy efficiency of the property, the potential for each type of renewable energy source, etc. A renewable energy consultant need not be a qualified plumber or electrician, oftentimes it may be an architect, architect technician, engineer, or even a savvy builder. Many plumbing and electrical tradespeople are well capable of performing the consultancy role too however. |
| DESIGN | Once a householder or business has received advice on what solution best suits their needs, and they decide to make an investment, their solution needs to be designed. Oftentimes the consulting and design activities are carried out together and by the same person, but this need not be the case. |
| INSTALL | In the same way that more traditional heating and electrical systems must be installed by qualified plumbers and electricians, so too must renewable solutions. This activity should ONLY be carried out by qualified personnel, and employing others to undertake it can, and likely will, lead to problems. |
| SUPERVISE | The activity of overseeing the above activities is supervising. This requires a different skillset to all of the above. |
Beyond installation courses, which will be accredited, other complementary courses will be offered to enhance the skills of those involved in the industry, and also the knowledge of the consumer. We also welcome suggestions from industry on other courses that help their businesses and the profession as a whole.
