The Biomass Training Programme

Currently within the Region there is an abundant source of plumbing engineers who are well trained in the plumbing and installation of standard heating systems. Unfortunately to date there has been insufficient training provided locally for the installation of Biomass Heating systems.

To broaden the Installer base of Biomass Heating Systems within the local area a Biomass Installation Training Programme commenced on the 7th April 2006 in the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen. Presentations were provided by Mr John Gilliland OBE, N.I. Commissioner for Sustainable Development Commission and Mr Peter Kernohan, Marketing Development Manager Biofuels,Balcas Ltd. The day was drawn to a close with a site visit to the renouned BALCAS pelletising plant in Enniskillen.

Swedish Energy Experts Energidalen will be administering the training programme. Energidalen is a R&D-company established to be a platform for bio-energy development in Mid-Sweden. Its main activities include research, development and education in the production and utilisation of refined bio-fuels.

Four boilers will be installed, one per county, to act as training and accreditation facilities for local plumbing engineers.

A number of Swedish Biomass Boiler manufacturers will also be seeking agents to stock and install their products in the area through this programme.

As part of this phase, tenders were invited from Not-for-Profit organisations to provide their premises as training and accreditation facilities during the installation of the Biomass Boilers.

In turn the successful Not-for-Profit Organisations will receive the fully installed Biomass Boiler on their premises as full payment for the use of their facilities.

Within the coming months the training programme will get under way with the installation of the demonstration boilers, if you are a plumbing engineer or local trades person interested in attending this course please complete the Expression of Interest Form below and return to renewables@iol.ie
